DIN 439 B Hex Jam Nut

DIN 439 B Hex Jam Nuts have internal machine screw threads and are the same width as full-size hex nuts but are thinner—their nominal (maximum) thickness is about 0.5 times their nominal size (denoted as ~0.5d) instead of 0.8 like full-size nuts. Consequently, an M10 jam nut is 5 mm thick instead of 8 mm. While their reduced size saves space and makes them a perfect companion for small machine screws, their strength is also reduced: Class 04 and 05 for steel instead of Class 6 and higher (thin nuts are classified as Style 0 by ISO 898-2 so their Class is specified as a two-digit number with "0" as the first digit to indicate reduced loadability). Other materials include stainless steel and brass. Along with coarse thread, fine and extra fine threads can be supplied. Plain finish, susceptible to rust, and zinc plated are typical finishes for steel. Thread tolerance for plain finish and plated steel, stainless steel and brass is 6H; right-hand threads are standard. DIN 439 B Hex Jam Nuts are similar to ISO 4035, ISO 8675 and ANSI B18.2.4.5M. Never use a nut Class that doesn't match or exceed the Class of the screw. If your application requires the strength of a full-size hex nut, consider DIN 934.
