Socket Pipe (Pressure) Plugs

Also Called: Pressure Plugs

Socket Pipe PlugSocket Pipe Plugs, commonly known as Pressure Plugs, are often confused with pipe plugs, but there are significant differences. Pressure Plugs will seal at much higher pressures without a sealing compound provided they are correctly made and used. Since they are able to seal low viscosity fluids, they are often used in hydraulic and pneumatic systems. Pressure Plugs are manufactured to closer tolerances than pipe plugs and are generally higher in quality. A maximum depth hex socket provides for positive wrenching, and most have taper threads. (For comparison, pipe plugs, which are standard plumber's fittings, are limited to pressures of about 600 PSI, are made of cast iron with cut threads and protruding square drives, and are sealed with a compound).
