    CLAMPS

Clamps, in general terms, are used to fasten one object to another. Two of the most popular clamps are hose clamps and tube clamps. Even though both are called clamps, their function is very different—hose clamps secure and seal and tube clamps just secure. Both are briefly discussed below—see the specific clamp type for detailed information. Some "clamps" may also be referred to as "clips."

    Hose Clamps

Hose clamps are designed to attach hoses and tubes to fittings and pipes. Among the many types to choose from, worm drive is very common. A captive screw tightens and releases the band over its adjustment range. They can be fully released (opened) for installation on hoses and tubing already in place. A screwdriver or hex driver is the only tool needed to install, adjust and remove.

Size is based on clamp diameter range, in inches, and may also be specified as an SAE size. Standard series clamps meet or exceed SAE torque specifications. Miniature series are smaller and ideal for use in confined spaces. Create-A-Clamp allows you to make custom hose clamps up to 16 ft in diameter.

Partial stainless steel hose clamps have a plated screw and housing that offers fair corrosion resistance along with a stainless steel band. All stainless steel clamps offer good corrosion resistance because all components are stainless steel. Both types are made by a domestic manufacturer.

Do not use these clamps with soft hoses, such as silicone, and do not exceed the recommended tightening torque. Also, be sure to select the correct hose clamp for the application.

    Tube Clamps

Tube clamps are used to secure small pipes and tubing to surfaces. Also called cable clamps, they are often used with wire and cable. These metal loop clamps mount with a single screw and have a vinyl coating to cushion and insulate the tubing and cables.

Size is based on clamping diameter. Heavy duty tube clamps are made of metal that is wider and thicker than light duty clamps.
