External E Retaining Rings

External E Retaining Rings, which resemble the letter "E," are perhaps the most popular retaining ring in use. They are installed radially by snapping them into a machined groove from the side. Three prongs (both sides and center) contact the bottom of the groove and act as a shoulder to effectively retain assemblies. E Retaining Rings have a larger profile than C Retaining Rings and while they are more economical than axially assembled external retaining rings, the allowable thrust loading is lower.
