DIN 980 V Prevailing Torque Hex Lock Nuts

DIN 980 V Prevailing Torque Hex Lock Nut

DIN 980 V Prevailing Torque Hex Lock Nuts are one-piece hex nuts with internal machine screw threads, a conical top and flat bottom bearing surface. Prevailing torque, which requires the nuts to be wrenched when installing and removing, is caused by deformation of their top threads. That feature allows them to resist dynamic forces like shock and vibration but is also responsible for possible thread galling. They are considered one-way nuts because the flat bottom is threaded onto the mating part first. Since they are all-metal they are not subject to the chemical and temperature limitations of non-metallic inserts, like nylon (polyamide), but can only be reused a limited number of times due to a decline in prevailing torque (permissible temperature range is -58 to +440°F). Available in Class 8 and 10 steel; coarse, fine and extra fine threads; and zinc plated with a thread tolerance of 6H; right-hand threads are standard. The nut Class should always be equal to or greater than the screw Class. DIN 980 V Prevailing Torque Hex Lock Nuts are similar to ISO 7719 and ANSI B18.16.3M.

Product Filter Help

It's easy and fast to find the exact item you're looking for using these filters. Depending on the item, you can filter by Size (diameter and thread), Length, Grade/Class, Material and Finish/Plating. Here's how…

  • Click in a Select box to view the options. It may be necessary to scroll to see the entire list. The number of matching items is displayed in parentheses ( ).
  • Click on the desired item and -- Select -- will change to 1 Selected. You can select more than one item in each Select box. For example, you can select two sizes and 1 Selected will change to 2 Selected.
  • Click in other Select boxes and make more choices. Available options will be based on selections you've already made.
  • Even though there are thousands of fasteners to choose from a particular material or finish may not be available in every size and length. So, try different combinations of filters like Size, Grade and Material to see matching Lengths and Finishes.
  • To deselect a single filter option, click in the Select box and click on the selected option. It will appear at the top of the list in bold. To clear all filter selections, click on the Clear Filters button.

Even after filtering there may be several pages of items. The number of pages will be displayed to the left of the Add All Selected Items button. Click on a page number or the arrows to page forward and back.
